Intermediate I - 6 Week Wheel-Throwing course● £380

Mugs, Creamers and Lidded Jars

COURSE

WHAT TO EXPECT

Ready to take your pottery skills a little further? This six-week intermediate course is an opportunity to build on the foundations of wheel throwing, explore new techniques and create a collection of beautiful, functional ceramics to enjoy at home.

You'll need to have completed the five-week Beginners Course at Lucy Young Ceramics, followed by at least one month (six hours) of independent practice through our Clay Club membership. This gives you the opportunity to build confidence and develop the skills learnt during your beginners' course. If you have previous pottery experience elsewhere, please get in touch to discuss whether the course is right for you.

Over six weeks, we'll explore three forms: mugs with pulled or extruded handles, small handle-free creamers with pouring spouts, and lidded sugar jars. You'll develop your centring and throwing skills, experiment with additional shaping techniques and learn how to refine and finish your pieces.

We'll finish by dipping your work into a choice of studio glazes, ready for firing. By the end of the course, you'll have developed your skills, gained confidence and created a collection of handmade pottery to enjoy using every day.

  • Expert guidance and individual tuition from an experienced teacher and production potter.

  • Step-by-step demonstrations throughout the six weeks.

  • Your own pottery wheel and specialist tools for each session.

  • Development of throwing skills, including centring, pulling up and exploring additional shaping techniques.

  • Techniques for making pulled and extruded handles and attaching, shaping pouring spouts and throwing and turning well-fitting lids.

  • Unlimited clay for practice during the course and all materials provided.

  • An opportunity to apply wax resist and dip your work into a choice of studio glazes.

  • Glazing and firing of your three final pieces: a mug, a handle-free creamer and a lidded sugar jar.

Additional pieces can be glazed and fired for a small charge based on weight
