5 Week Throwing Course (Beginner) £260

WHAT TO EXPECT

This hands-on course is perfect for complete beginners who are new to wheel throwing. Over five relaxed and supportive sessions, you’ll learn the fundamental skills needed to get started on the pottery wheel, from centering clay to shaping simple forms like cylinders and bowls.

Each class begins with a demonstration, followed by step-by-step guidance from Lucy, an experienced teacher and skilled production potter. 

Ideal for those with little or no previous experience, this course offers a welcoming introduction to wheel throwing in a friendly and creative environment. Designed for makers aged 18 and over.

What’s included

  • Held in my pottery studio at Maws Craft Centre

  • A relaxed, light and airy studio space designed to help you feel comfortable and enjoy the process

  • Expert step-by-step guidance and clear demonstrations throughout, perfect for beginners

  • A focus on building core skills such as centering clay/controlling the clay, and pulling up to form simple shapes like cylinders and bowls

  • Your own pottery wheel and tools for the duration of the course

  • Unlimited clay for practice, with all materials provided

  • Learn how to trim a foot-ring to refine and finish your pieces

  • An introduction to glazing, with the opportunity to glaze your own selected pieces

  • Choose your favourite 4 - 6 pieces to be fired and glazed in the kiln

  • Additional pieces can be fired for a small charge based on weight

  • For ages 18+

What to bring

An apron and old towel / tea towel for drying hands and wheel head alternatively you can hire an apron and towel bundle at check out for £5 

Wear comfortable clothing that can get a little messy, and keep your nails short! 

Cost

£260 per person for the session  £5 per apron and towel bundle for hire 

Duration

1.5 hours per week for 5 weeks (including demonstration & clean up time)

Thursday evenings 6.00pm to 7.30pm

Friday mornings 10.00am to 11.30am
